The weakest link in practicing with your holster.

Often times we tend to buy a handgun for our protection, maybe sit through a carry permit if required, and then think we're good to go. I'm here to tell you this isn't the case. In today's world criminals are less scared and you're going to have to draw your gun quickly and more than likely shoot the person attacking you. We can usually shoot a static target fairly easily and definitely need practice shooting moving targets, but the weakest link tends to be drawing from your holster and getting a shot off fast enough to stop the attack. I've seen this even with guys open carrying not be able to draw their gun fast enough to defend themselves in force-on-force video scenarios. There's no reason for this; we can practice this at home safely and get very proficient at it. The first thing I suggest you do is unload your gun, place a target on the wall, this can be just a sheet of paper. Aim at the target, get a good feel for this position and then holster your gun. Now, practice drawing, to start out do everything slow and smooth, if you're concealed under your shirt, pull your shirt out of the way as you're drawing your gun. Dothis repeatedly until you get a good smooth draw at this speed. Now start speeding it up, not too much, just enough to have to practice it to make it smooth again, now speed it up, and so on. Once you've got a good smooth motion down, I suggest you order a laser cartridge for your gun and download the shotveryfierLT app. This app allows you to put a target on the wall, placet the phone to see it, start it and it count's down either randomly or at a set time and buzzes to go. It will tell you how long and where you put the shot, it's a great combo to really hone in your drawing skill, just make sure not to get sloppy, continue to make sure you draw smoothly, and speed will build. You can also practice point shooting / instinctive shooting this way. I have practiced so much that I can get a very repeatable .90 second draw with shot on target instinctive shooting. It takes a lot of practice, but it can be done. In carrying a firearm, we must understand that they are tools, and we must use the tools to master our craft.
